Chichén Itzá is the best known of all the Mayan cities. Unlike most of the Mayan sites it was discovered during the Spanish Conquest of the area. It is Puuc styling with direct influence of Putún and indirect influence of the Toltecs. It was one of the most important cities in the Maya territory as it was the destination of Mayan pilgrimages.
