Tikal Valley

Tikal is one of the oldest sites, dating back to the pre-classic period (900-600 BC). It is also one of the largest sites, with some of the tallest structures in the Maya territory. It reached it's height during the late Classic period (AD 550-950), and housed around 10,000 inhabitants. It would take the average person about an hour to walk from one end of the city to the other.
