Range: Africa south of the Sahara
Habitat: Semi-desert to Savanna

Although the Hyena is usually thought to be part of the dog family their closest relative is actually the mongoose and then cats. Once thought to be only scavengers, eating carrion, it is now clear that they are well organized hunters.
